Germany wins women’s relay at world championships

KHANTY-MANSIYSK, Russia (AP) — Germany survived 13 missed targets and two penalty loops Sunday to win the women’s 4×6-kilometer relay, the closing event at the biathlon world championships.

The German team of Andrea Henkel, Miriam Gossner, Tina Bachmann and Magdalena Neuner finished the race in 1 hour, 13 minutes, 31.1 seconds.

Veteran Oksana Khvostenko anchored Ukraine to the silver medal, finishing 24.5 seconds behind. The French quartet missed nine targets and came in third, another 22.7 points behind.

Germany finished the championships with four gold and three silver medals. Norway won four golds, a silver and three bronze medals. France was third with a gold, silver and two bronzes.
