SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Matt Cain pitched three scoreless innings in his first appearance since San Francisco’s spring opener, but the Milwaukee Brewers rallied for six runs off Jeff Suppan to beat the Giants 12-8 on Monday.
Cain had not pitched in game since Feb. 27 due to inflammation in his right elbow. He gave up three hits and struck out one.
Ryan Braun, returning to the lineup after missing two games with a slight muscle strain in his rib cage, singled off Cain in his first at-bat and struck out in his second.
Jeremy Reed hit a three-run homer to highlight a six-run fifth inning for the Brewers.
