PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — Eastern Oregon farms in Umatilla County have already lost about $87,000 worth of copper to theft this year.
The East Oregonian reports the losses at seven farms include copper wire, span cable and irrigation cable.
Sheriff John Trumbo blamed the thefts partly on dramatic increases in metal prices.
Trumbo also said reports of theft of hay and fuel also have increased.
