WHITE SWAN, Wash. (AP) — The Yakama Nation says it’s making progress in recovering from the Feb. 12 wildfire that destroyed 20 homes on tribal land at White Swan.
Harry Smiskin of the Tribal Council told KNDO that victims are depending on family and friends or staying at motels as they wait for mobile homes expected to arrive later this week.
More than 30 volunteer organizations are helping the tribe, which is seeking federal aid. The cost of rebuilding is estimated at $2.8 million.
