BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — Bremerton police say they arrested a 36-year-old Seattle man accused of grabbing a woman by the neck and choking her in the Bremerton ferry terminal.

Officers say the Federal Way woman did not know the attacker. She says she came out of a restroom and sat down in the terminal Monday evening when “all of a sudden” a man grabbed her neck with both hands. Police say she yelled and passers-by came to help her while the attacker walked away. Police say the woman had red marks on her neck.

Police arrested a man they found nearby. He reportedly accused the woman of bullying him but refused to say more.

The Kitsap Sun says Kitsap County prosecutors charged Byron L. Ayers on Tuesday with attempted second-degree assault. His bail was set at $150,000.
