MONACO (AP) — Five countries have announced plans to bid for the 2017 world athletics championships.

The IAAF says it has received letters of intent from Germany, Britain, Hungary, Qatar and Spain. Formal bids must be submitted by Sept. 1 to the IAAF, which will announce its decision in November.

Daegu, South Korea, will host this year’s event.

London withdrew its bid to host the 2015 worlds, which were awarded to Beijing last year, because of uncertainty over the future of the 2012 Olympic Stadium. Britain has since decided to retain a running track in the venue after the games.
