Boating safety slated for March 26

A boating safety class will begin at 8:30 a.m. March 26 at the Clark County Regional Wastewater District, 8000 N.E. 52nd Court.

Offered by Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 78 and the Clark County Marine Patrol, the class cost $10 per person. The class will prepare participants to obtain a boater safety card in Washington or Oregon.

Topics to be covered include safety skills, equipment requirements, navigation rules and regulatory markers. Washington requires operators of boats with 15 horsepower or more and age 35 or younger to have a boater safety card.

Columbia Gorge group to offer spring hikes

Hikes, driving tours, a bike ride and other outings are scheduled this spring and summer in the Friends of the Columbia Gorge’s 25th anniversary celebration of creation of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

The outing schedule began on Sunday with a walk at the Mosier Twin Tunnels. The final event is July 17. To see the complete schedule, go online to www.gorgefriends.org/hikes.

All the outings are free, but some are limited to Friends of the Columbia Gorge members.

The group also has identfied what it considers the top 25 trails in the Gorge for hikers to complete by Oct. 31.

Mazamas to sell used outdoor gear

PORTLAND — Used climbing, skiing, camping, snowshoeing and other outdoor gear will go on sale at 7 p.m. March 25 at the Mazamas Mountaineering Center, 527 S.E. 43rd Ave.

The Mazamas are a non-profit mountaineering group based in Portland.

Flyfishers offer class April 9 in Camas

CAMAS — The Clark-Skamania Flyfishers’ 14th annual beginning fly-fishing school is scheduled for April 9 at Camas Meadows Golf Club, 4105 N.W. Camas Meadows Drive.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and continues through 5 p.m. Enrollment is limited to 40 and the cost is $34.

Topics include rods, reels, lines, leaders, basic knots, insect life, water safety, catch-and-release ethics along with fishing tactics and techniques.

The cost includes two snacks and lunch. All equipment is provided.

Chinook Archers shoot slated this weekend

CAMAS — Registration opens at 8 a.m. Saturday for the Chinook Archers March Madness 3-D Shoot.

The event will be at the club’s range at 6101 N.W. Nightshade St. There will be 40 targets.

The campground opens Friday. The kitchen opens at 8 a.m. Saturday offering made-to-order breakfasts and lunches.
