LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland (AP) — Lindsey Vonn says she feels “devastated” losing her World Cup overall title without being able to run the final race.

Vonn, the three-time defending champion, says she “just wanted the chance” to overhaul friend and rival Maria Riesch in the season-finale giant slalom.

The race was called off early Saturday because of poor snow conditions, giving Riesch her first title by a tiny three-point margin.

Vonn says the cancellation “doesn’t just hurt me, it hurts the fans and the sport of ski racing as a whole.”

She led going into Friday’s slalom but scored too few points finishing 13th as Riesch placed fourth. Vonn says she’s happy for Riesch as the German has had “an outstanding season. She’s worked really hard for this.”
