Oudin advances to 2nd round in Miami

MIAMI (AP) — Melanie Oudin defeated Julia Goerges of Germany 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the Sony Ericsson Open on Tuesday.

Oudin led 5-2, but allowed Goerges to pull even before winning the first set.

American wildcard Madison Keys, a 16-year-old ranked No. 421, took Patty Schnyder of Switzerland to three sets before falling 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2).

Keys trains at the nearby Evert Academy.

Men’s first-round play begins Wednesday.
