BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Sabres defenseman Jordan Leopold will miss at least the final two weeks of the regular season because of a broken left hand.
General manager Darcy Regier says the team will know more about the extent of the injury — and whether surgery is required — after the player meets with a specialist Monday. Regier says it’s not clear when Leopold could return if the eighth-place Sabres qualify for the playoffs.
Regier provided the update Saturday before the Sabres’ game against New Jersey.
Leopold was hurt a day earlier when he crashed into the goal post in the second period of a 4-2 win over Florida. Leopold continued playing, and eventually scored in the third period. He leads Sabres defensemen with 13 goals this season.
