FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Zack Schilawski scored his first goal of the season and Shalrie Joseph converted a penalty kick to lead the New England Revolution to a 2-1 win over D.C. United on Saturday.

New England was awarded a penalty kick after United’s Dax McCarty inadvertently swung his leg out to clear a ball in the penalty box area and sideswiped Revolution midfielder Pat Phelan. Joseph scored his ninth career penalty-kick goal for New England in the 17th minute, drilling a shot off goalie Pat Onstad’s left hand into the lower right corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.

Schilawski scored New England’s first goal in the 8th minute when his initial stab of a shot deflected off United defender Marc Burch before Schilawski sent a volley over the head of Onstad.

Charlie Davies scored for D.C. United on a penalty kick during stoppage time.
