PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Some debris from the tsunami that hit Japan could be washing onto Oregon beaches in about a year.
Portland State University oceanographer Curt Petersen says Pacific currents will carry the debris to the West Coast.
He told KGW light plastics and bottles might show up first, followed by timber from devastated structures.
Petersen says debris from the tsunami could continue washing ashore in Oregon for three to five years.
