PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — A Port Angeles timber company says it’s shipping increasing numbers of logs to China.
Merrill & Ring General Manager Paul Stutesman told a Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce meeting Monday that demand has grown sharply over the past year and he expects exports from the north Olympic Peninsula to double this year.
He says the logs are used in China to make forms for concrete housing and also for pallets and packaging. About 65 percent of the logs shiped from Port Angeles go to China and 35 percent to South Korea.
The Peninsula Daily News reports that Port Angeles-based Merrill & Ring owns timber in Washington, British Columbia and New Zealand.
