SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres have placed catcher Nick Hundley on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained muscle in his right side.
The Padres purchased the contract of catcher Kyle Phillips from Double-A San Antonio serve as backup to Rob Johnson. Hundley’s moves is retroactive to Thursday.
The Padres transferred infielder Jarrett Hoffpauir from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster.
Hundley was hurt taking a swing in Wednesday’s loss to Pittsburgh. He was hitting .263 with three home runs and 12 RBIs.
Phillips was hitting .316 with two homers and 15 RBIs in 19 games at San Antonio.
