Letter: Efforts of Bush years led to capture

The Columbian
Published: May 13, 2011, 12:00am

While brazenly accepting the credit for bringing down the maniacal terrorist Osama bin Laden, President Obama’s hypocritical nature has reached critical mass.

Yes, he made the final decision to go after him, but what about the 10 years of painstaking effort and policies of the former president, George W. Bush, including enhanced interrogation (water boarding, rendition, etc) that produced information leading up to Osama’s demise?

The irony of it all is that Obama fought against these interrogation methods as a senator and even now has shelved their use. In other words, with the current policies of this administration in place, bin Laden would probably never have been located, leaving this monster still in power to carry out his vision of destruction around the globe.

And there is another factor in the case. Since becoming president, Barack Obama has allowed his attorney general, Eric Holder, free hand to possibly criminally prosecute the CIA interrogators whose efforts made it possible for the capture and killing of bin Laden. This is insane. Medals of Honor should be bestowed on them instead.

How much longer will people stand for such blatant hypocrisy?

Not past the elections of 2012, I would hope.
