Letter: Practical function lost in designs

I read the April 4 story, “Graffiti on rise near Fort: City, Vancouver Land Bridge administrators try to keep tabs on taggers.” Bummer. I’ve walked and biked over that bridge. It looks great. I enjoy it. The story mentioned that the color was attractive to vandals. That cool brown paving is constantly being repaired. The planking, which apparently is made of some recycled material, is slippery when wet or when it’s cold. I don’t know how the design was selected. Maybe a maintenance person should be included in the evaluation process.

When building structures such as the land bridge, some thoughts should be given to practicality and maintenance costs.
