Oregon ex-bank manager pleads guilty to thefts

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The former assistant manager of a Coos Bay bank has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $625,000 from 10 regular customers.

The Register-Guard reports that 38-year-old Shawna Saia also agreed to forfeit designer handbags and jewelry, including 30 diamond rings and bracelets.

The combined value of the handbags, jewelry and other items is expected to total only about $50,000 — a far less than what Saia owes her victims.

Federal court records show that Saia may have gambled away the remainder. After federal agents obtained a warrant to search her home, they found more than 50 gambling cards for Oregon and Nevada casinos.

The Coos Bay Wells Fargo Bank fired Saia in August, after determining that many of her clients had lost significant funds to unauthorized transactions.
