PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — Disposal of the last 1,000 containers of mustard agent is under way at the Umatilla Chemical Depot in northeastern Oregon.

The East Oregonian newspaper in Pendleton reports the Umatilla Chemical Agent Disposal Facility had 1,000 of the 1-ton containers left in its inventory after destroying number 1,635 earlier this month.

A depot spokesman said workers have destroyed 62 percent of the mustard agent containers and most of the rest of the chemical stockpile.

Officials hope to complete the disposal of the mustard agent by November.
