Letter: Concentrate on bettering this world

This is a letter of condolence addressed to those believers who were left behind May 21 as the promised rapture ruptured and just didn’t happen. This event, which was the product of a mid-1820s mind gone wild, is another example of man reading what he wants to read into a supposed holy book.

I can see it in my mind’s eye. These joyous people getting all gussied up in their Sunday go-to-meetin’ clothes and standing out in the front yard, looking to the heavens, waiting to be beamed up into the clouds where they will hang out forever. Wow! That must have been a long wait until they realized that it was all just made up. Bum trip.

At least the rest of us won’t have to take care of the animals they would have left behind had they blasted off. And, since they will be staying down here with us heathens, they will still be able to mow their lawns and keep our neighborhoods looking clean and snappy. Cleanliness is next to godliness, don’t ya know.

Let me suggest that they try making the real world a better place. The world that we all live in now.
