McMINVILLE, Ore. (AP) — A deputy with the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested and placed on administrative leave.

The Statesman Journal reports that Deputy Steve Wilkinson is facing charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment, plus third- and fourth-degree assault, but no further details of the allegations were immediately available.

An investigation by Oregon State Police led to Wilkinson’s arrest on Thursday. He has since been released pending his arraignment.

The 48-year-old from Newberg has worked with the sheriff’s office for nearly six years.

An internal investigation by the sheriff’s office is ongoing.

The Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office is handling the case.
