BRIDGEPORT, Wash. (AP) — Thirty-seven seniors at Bridgeport High School were preparing for a graduation ceremony made more special by the attendance of U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis.

Solis traveled to Bridgeport High School to deliver the commencement address after the school was one of three national finalists in President Barack Obama’s Race to the Top Commencement Challenge.

Solis is the nation’s first Hispanic cabinet member and one of seven children of immigrant parents. She told the 37 graduates to value their education and thank those who prod them along the way.

Bridgeport High School serves largely Hispanic students, and nearly the entire student body qualifies for free or reduced breakfast and lunch. But the entire senior class is graduating and heading to college or trade schools.
