Prior Release

On May 30, 2011 at 8:15 PM, Hillsboro Police patrol officers were called to 1010 NE 17th Avenue at the report of a mini van that had struck a 3 year old child.

The initial investigation revealed that a 3 year old male child was walking in the parking lot of the Pinewood Village apartment complex when struck by a Chevrolet mini van driven by a 26 year old woman. The woman was backing her vehicle and did not see the child behind her. This was a low speed crash and the bumper of the van struck the child and knocked him down. He fell to the pavement and suffered a head injury.

Hillsboro Fire Department paramedics treated the child on scene and the child was transported from the location via ambulance in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation has revealed no crime, drugs or alcohol are involved. The woman driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. The child’s father was nearby and was on scene when this event occurred.
