PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The last execution in Oregon 14 years ago took place just after midnight.
If death row inmate Gary Haugen is executed as scheduled on Dec. 6 at the penitentiary in Salem, the time is set for 7 p.m.
Corrections Department spokeswoman Jeanine Hohn told The Oregonian (http://bit.ly/todTiB ) the timing will help coordinate security, reduce the impact on prison employee schedules and limit disruptions to the other inmates.
Haugen was sentenced to death in 2007 for killing another inmate. At the time Haugen was already serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
