DII Northern Kentucky beats West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Eshaunte Jones’ 3-pointer with 1 second left lifted Division II Northern Kentucky to a 77-74 exhibition win over West Virginia on Friday night.

The Mountaineers rallied from a 42-29 halftime deficit with Truck Bryant hitting a 3-pointer with 7 seconds left that tied it at 74.

Tony Rack led Northern Kentucky with 21 points and Jones scored 15.

Bryant finished with 24 points and Kevin Jones added 22 for the Mountaineers, who lost an exhibition game for the first time under fifth-year coach Bob Huggins.

West Virginia got significant contributions from two of the seven freshmen on its roster. Gary Browne had 11 points and Jabarie Hinds scored 10.

Northern Kentucky shot 27 of 50 (54 percent) from the field.
