Letter: Fight obesity by talking to your kids

The Oct. 6 editorial, “Preach & Practice,” points out that “we have long editorialized that the best strategy as families confront the obesity epidemic is not government regulations but frank discussions around the family dinner table.” Although governmental regulations are necessary and do guide people in the general direction toward healthy lifestyles, “Simple & Fit” menu options alone aren’t going to reverse the obesity epidemic. It requires rather a change in people’s values.

The discussions at home are those that make the ultimate impact. If children grow up informed on the dangers of bad eating habits, we will be on our way toward a healthier America.
