ROME (AP) — Silvio Berlusconi’s main coalition ally says the Italian premier should “step aside” as political uncertainty rocks financial markets.
Italian news reports are quoting Umberto Bossi as telling reporters that it’s time for Berlusconi to resign and be replaced by another party leader from their coalition. His appeal came a few hours ahead of a key vote in Parliament that could force the premier’s resignation. Berlusconi has been resisting calls to resign for weeks.
