DENTON, Texas (AP) — Jordan Williams had 16 points and Chris Jones added 12 rebounds as North Texas opened its season with an 81-52 victory against St. Gregory’s on Friday night.

Oklahoma State transfer Roger Franklin, whose eligibility was approved by the NCAA on Thursday, scored four points in 15 minutes for the Mean Green.

Kyler Patterson scored 11 points to lead St. Gregory’s, a NAIA school in Shawnee, Okla., that classified the game as an exhibition. The Cavaliers’ record remains 1-1.

Franklin scored all of his points while North Texas reeled off 20 consecutive points during an 8:14 stretch of the first half. St. Gregory’s went 0 for 10 from the floor during the drought en route to falling behind 33-10.

Jones’ rebound total was the most for a North Texas guard since Shannon Shorter had 10 against University of the Southwest on Dec. 2, 2009.
