Tennessee opens with 92-63 win over UNC-Greensboro

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Trae Golden had 29 points and nine assists as Tennessee cruised to a 92-63 win over UNC Greensboro on Friday night.

The game was part of an expanded Maui Invitational tournament. The Volunteers travel to Maui to face No. 6 Duke on Nov. 21, while the Spartans face Middle Tennessee at Murfreesboro, Tenn., in the regional field of the tournament.

Jeronne Maymon hit a long jumper and Jordan McRae and Golden had back-to-back 3s as Tennessee took an 8-0 lead in the first 1:09 of the game. Golden hit three shots from behind the arc in a row over a two-minute span that gave the Vols a 40-28 lead with 3:03 before halftime.

The Vols (1-0) shot 64.6 percent and hit 15 of 24 from 3-point range.

Korey Van Dussen had 12 points for the Spartans (0-1), who had three more rebounds and eight more paint points than Tennessee.
