AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Sophomore transfer Chaz Williams scored 18 points and handed out eight assists as Massachusetts defeated Elon 85-67 Friday night in a rare appearance at the Curry Hicks Cage.

The game was the second in 18 years for the Minutemen at their former campus home, which they gave up to move into the Mullins Center in 1993.

Williams, playing his first game for Massachusetts after transferring from Hofstra, also grabbed six rebounds and had three steals for the Minutemen. Terrell Vinson added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Minutemen and Sampson Carter also scored 17.

After Elon took its largest lead of the game, 45-39 with 19:46 remaining, Massachusetts outscored the Phoenix 21-4 over the next 5:09 to lead 60-49 with 14:37 left.

Carter scored eight of his points during the run, which included 11 Massachusetts points off turnovers.
