Bottelberghe, Sanders top area swim qualifiers

Columbia River’s Monica Bottelberghe and Hockinson’s Julia Sanders each won two individual preliminaries Friday to advance to the finals of the WIAA state swimming championships at Federal Way.

Bottelberghe posted a time of 1 minute, 53.56 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle in the Class 3A meet, and later a 51.68 in the 100 free.

In the 2A meet, Sanders went 23.97 in the 50 free and 57.35 in the 100 fly.

The finals are Saturday.

Anna Panebianco of Camas (100 backstroke), and Darya Samiee of Mountain View (500 free) also qualified for Saturday’s finals by finishing among the top eight in the preliminaries.

Camas’ 200 medley relay team of Panebianco, Gretchen Beyer, Ashlyn Price and Julieann Reed also advanced to the final.

In the 4A meet, Union’s Felicia Williamson qualified for the finals in two events and a relay.

Williamson was fifth in the 100 free, and sixth in the 200 free. She is also part of the 200 free relay along with Alice Chang, Megan Pollard and Andrea Young.

Young advanced to the final of the 100 breaststroke.

Also in 2A, Seton Catholic’s Ada Beale qualified for the final in the 200 individual medley, and Hockinson’s Bailee Christenson made the final in the 100 back.
