Letter: Family values have changed

The Columbian

Many people lament “poverty”. I recall my recent “guy” chores including electrical/plumbing repairs and “heavy” work. My wife and I marvel at how some survive without a partner.

The nation is bankrupt from supporting uncommitted “partners.” Under disingenuous pleas of “helping children,” millions are fanatical about making taxpayers subsidize the costs of mocking marital vows. Parents once packed kids’ lunches; now taxpayers provide breakfasts AND lunches.

Dads once installed a $20 set of tire chains for snow, now “cool dudes” drive a 4WD, 350 hp SUV for three days of frost, and abandon stressed moms who relinquish kids to schools, “child care” and foster parents.

Sales tax was 3.5 percent in the 1950s, yet schools taught three to six kids per family. Dads provided medical care! Now lonely, self-absorbed singles won’t discipline their 28 million kids for fear of rejection, or can’t because junior is 6-feet, 200 lbs. So grades plummet and drug abuse rises. Mommies demand more public assistance, while daddies live in shack-up rotation celebrating our stupidity. The biggest proven cause of poverty is NOT “corporate greed”, it’s single-parenthood, divorce and formerly criminal sexual permissiveness.

Amazing how guilty liberals so readily identify the “greed” of others.
