McNeese State overpowers Louisiana College 71-52

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Rudy Turner had a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds to lead McNeese State to a 71-52 win over Louisiana College on Tuesday night.

Turner, a 6-foot-9, 290-pound transfer from Louisiana-Monroe in his first season with the Cowboys (1-1), helped McNeese State dominate inside. The Cowboys scored 46 points in the paint and outrebounded the Division III Wildcats 61-29, with 26 offensive boards to Louisiana College’s nine.

Jeremie Mitchell added 20 points for McNeese State, which beat the Wildcats for the 10th straight time. Dontae Cannon chipped in 14 points and Pat Richard scored 11.

Louisiana College, which was playing the game as an exhibition, had only one scorer in double figures, Korey Salmon with 13 points.

The Wildcats held an early four-point lead, but McNeese State took the lead for good with 13:39 left in the first half en route a 41-23 halftime margin.
