Richmond takes down Hampton 72-51

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Four players hit double figures and Richmond outscored Hampton 40-25 in the second half of the Spiders’ 72-51 win on Thursday night.

Richmond (2-1) entered the second half leading 32-26, but used a 29-12 run to take a 61-38 lead with 8:43 left to play. Derrick Williams hit a 3-pointer and then a made a layup 30 seconds later to give Richmond a 66-40 lead and put the game out of reach for Hampton. Williams finished with 10 points.

Darien Brothers scored 15 points, Kendall Anthony added 14 and Josh Dunker recorded 10 for Richmond.

Hampton (1-1) was led by 11 points from Mike Tuitt and 11 points from Jasper Williams.

Richmond shot 40.7 percent (24 of 59) from the field compared to just 25 percent (15 of 60) for Hampton. The Spiders nailed an impressive 52.4 percent (11 of 21) of their 3-point attempts.
