SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Former Syracuse star Gerry McNamara will fill in on the Orange’s coaching staff while associate head coach Bernie Fine is on administrative leave after child molestation allegations.

Coach Jim Boeheim announced Friday that McNamara had been promoted.

McNamara played on Syracuse’s 2003 NCAA championship team and was a four-year starter for the Orange.

McNamara returned to Syracuse to begin work on a master’s degree in 2009 and served as a graduate manager with the basketball program.

Fine says the allegations that he molested two former ball boys for years are “patently false.”
