SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- A woman trapped in a burning home in Spokane dropped her child from a second-floor window into the arms of a neighbor and then jumped to safety Sunday morning, while another woman was rescued by a neighbor who broke a window on the first floor and pulled her out.
All three residents were taken to a local hospital for treatment Saturday. KHQ reports (http://bit.ly/sAONlF ) that the older woman was reported in critical condition, while the 25-year-old mother and 1-year-old were treated for smoke inhalation.
Spokane fire officials say firefighters arrived Sunday morning to find the two-story wood frame home engulfed in heavy smoke and fire.
The cause of the fire was under investigation but it appears to have started on the first floor.
Fire officials credit neighbors with saving the lives of everyone in the home.
