SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A woman trapped in a burning home in Spokane dropped her child from a second-floor window into the arms of a neighbor and then jumped to safety Sunday morning, while another woman was rescued by a neighbor who broke a window on the first floor and pulled her out.
All three residents were taken to a local hospital for treatment Saturday. KHQ reports (http://bit.ly/sAONlF ) that the older woman was reported in critical condition, while the 25-year-old mother and 1-year-old were treated for smoke inhalation.
Spokane fire officials say firefighters arrived Sunday morning to find the two-story wood frame home engulfed in heavy smoke and fire.
The cause of the fire was under investigation but it appears to have started on the first floor.
