Belmont beats Middle Tennessee 87-84 in double OT

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — J.J. Mann scored seven of his 19 points in the second overtime to lead Belmont over Middle Tennessee 87-84.

The Bruins (2-2) trailed 79-78 with 3:38 left in the game, then went on a 9-2 run that lasted 1:14, sparked by Mann. Drew Hanlen hit two free throws with 24 seconds left to cap the spurt in the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

The Blue Raiders (4-1) were also ahead in the first overtime, leading 74-69 with 3:37 to go in the period, but couldn’t hold off Belmont.

Kerron Johnson scored seven straight for the Bruins, and Middle Tennessee’s LaRon Dendy sent it into the second extra session on a jumper with 39 seconds to go.

Johnson finished with 14 points for Belmont.

Dendy had 19 points, Marcos Knight 17 points and 11 rebounds and Raymond Cintron 18 points for the Blue Raiders.
