PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — About 300 people turned out at a rally to protest the eviction of the Occupy Portland encampment one week after the camp was broken up.

The rally and march on a blustery Sunday in Portland attracted a sizeable crowd, but nothing on the order of the thousands of people who filled the city’s downtown on Thursday.

Speakers at the rally say the encampment forced the city to confront issues with homelessness and mental illness that had been easily hidden.

The city’s Nov. 13 eviction of the encampment came after public safety and sanitation concerns.
