Illinois-Chicago holds on to beat Evansville 79-75

CHICAGO (AP) — Marc Brown scored 24 points and Illinois-Chicago held on to beat Evansville 79-75 Wednesday night.

Brown hit all five of his 3-point tries and was 8 for 15 overall from the field. Hayden Humes had 18 points for the Flames (2-2) and Darrin Williams added 10. Brown, Humes and Williams each had six rebounds as UIC owned a 40-28 edge on the boards.

Evansville (2-2) jumped to a 16-6 lead, but Illinois-Chicago went on an 18-7 run to take the lead for good at 24-23. The Flames led 35-27 at halftime and stretched the lead to 73-59 with 2:33 to play. The Purple Aces came back, mostly on free throws, but couldn’t get any closer than the final margin.

Ned Cox matched game-high scoring honors with 24 points. Colt Ryan had 18 points and six rebounds, and Kenny Harris added 17 points and six rebounds.
