Iona beats Saint Joseph’s 104-99 in double OT

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) — Scott Machado scored nine of his 33 points in the second overtime to lead Iona past Saint Joseph’s 104-99 on Wednesday night.

Machado scored Iona’s first five points of the second overtime to give it a 98-95 lead with 3:54 to play. The Hawks, however wouldn’t go away, making it a one-point, game, 100-99, on Carl Jones’ jumper with 19 seconds left.

After Machado hit a pair of free throws, Saint Joseph’s Langston Galloway’s 3-point attempt was off the mark with 8 seconds left. Machado then made two more free throws to seal the Gaels’ third straight win.

Mike Glover added 34 points and 15 rebounds for Iona (3-1).

The Gaels scored 21 points off 18 Saint Joeph’s turnovers, negating a 52.8-percent shooting performance by the Hawks (38 of 72).

Jones led the Hawks (3-2) with 25 points and Ronald Roberts added 20.
