ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — The Coast Guard has closed several river bars in Oregon and Washington to all vessels because of hazardous weather.

Coast Guard officials in Seattle and Astoria, Ore., said Thursday they are closing the bars at Quillayute (KWIL-uh-yoot) River and Grays Harbor in Washington as well as the Columbia River. Any request to transit the bars during the closure must be approved by the Coast Guard office in Astoria.

The Coast Guard says it understands the closures affect commerce and will re-open the waterways as soon as offshore weather improves.
