New Mexico State rips Central Michigan 78-49

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Bandja Sy scored 15 points and Wendell McKines had a double-double to pace New Mexico State past Central Michigan 78-49 on Thursday night in the Great Alaska Shootout.

McKines had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Aggies (4-0). Christian Kabongo scored 12.

Austin McBroom led the Chippewas (2-2) with 14 points. Trey Zeigler added 12.

Though the Aggies shot only 32 percent (20 of 62), they held overwhelming advantages from the free throw line and on the boards.

New Mexico State made 35 of 49 free throws, compared to 9 of 17 for Central Michigan. And the Aggies had a 54-35 rebounding edge.

New Mexico State never trailed. The Chippewas did not break into double figures until Zeigler cut their deficit to 17-10 with 7:24 left in the first half.

The Aggies led 34-18 at intermission, and it was never close in the second half.
