SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A county commissioner says Spokane is competitive as the possible Washington site for a Boeing factory to assemble the new 737 MAX.

Spokane County Commissioner Mark Richard told KXLY-TV (http://is.gd/PHnXLa ) that commissioners have changed zoning at the Spokane International Airport. A task force is working with Boeing on tax, utility and transportation issues.

Richard says Spokane offers affordable power rates and lower cost of living for workers.

Boeing announced the 737 Max in August. New new engines will improve fuel efficiency and compete with the Airbus A320neo. Boeing is expected to announce next year where the MAX will be assembled.

Current 737s are assembled at Renton. King County is working to keep Boeing jobs in the Seattle area. The state is working to keep new production in Washington.
