Southern Mississippi tops New Mexico State 80-72

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — LaShay Page scored 22 points, shooting 9 of 12 from the field, to lead Southern Mississippi to an 80-72 victory over New Mexico State on Friday night in the third round of the Great Alaska Shootout.

After trailing the whole way before halftime, the Golden Eagles (4-1) pulled ahead by as many as 10 points late in the second half. They went up for good early in the half when Page hit a jumper to break a tie at 48.

Southern Mississippi advanced to Saturday’s championship, where it will face Murray State.

Maurice Bolden added 17 points and Neil Watson 12 for the Golden Eagles while Jonathan Mills came off the bench to pull down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Christian Kabongo led the Aggies (4-1) with 19 points, shooting 15 for 15 from the free-throw line. Wendell McKines added 17 points and Tyrone Watson 10 for New Mexico State.
