MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — The 2012 AMA Motocross season will kick off in a familiar spot, but end someplace new.
The outdoor season will start May 19 at classic Hangtown near Sacramento, Calif., the longest-running event on the schedule. It will conclude Sept. 8 in Southern California, though the newest stop has yet to be announced.
The 12-round series will also make stops at High Point in Pennsylvania, RedBud in Michigan, Washougal in Washington and New York’s Unadilla.
AMA Motocross signed a new TV deal to have 24 hours of coverage shown on NBC and NBC Sports Network.
Ryan Villopoto is the defending champion and will compete against a field that features three former 450cc champions, including James Stewart, back on the outdoor circuit for the first time since his perfect season in 2008.
