LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Galaxy have traded former starting goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts to the expansion Montreal Impact for allocation money.

Ricketts, a goalkeeper on Jamaica’s national team, was an All-Star in 2009 and 2010, and was voted MLS goalkeeper of the year in 2010. The 34-year-old, bothered by injuries and called away to national team duty this season, lost the starting job to Josh Saunders.

Allocation money can be used to sign players or allocate against their contracts to get under the salary cap. The trade was announced Monday.
