SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — On the day he got a vote of confidence from his boss, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim also received plenty of support from fans Tuesday before the fourth-ranked Orange met Eastern Michigan.

Longtime assistant coach Bernie Fine was fired Sunday night after a third man came forward in an investigation of child molestation allegations against him. Boeheim has faced criticism for initially defending Fine and attacking the accusers, saying they were lying in hopes of making money.

“I think Boeheim should be left alone,” Fred Cady of nearby Holland Patent said. “I honestly think he doesn’t know.”

And 29-year-old Michael Knowles of Syracuse says Boeheim “didn’t do anything wrong.”

But the Rev. Robert Hoatson, president of Road to Recovery, a group that supports victims of sexual abuse, says Boeheim should resign or be fired.
