Brown downs Rhode Island 35-21

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Kyle Newhall-Caballero threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for two more, leading Brown over Rhode Island 35-21 on Saturday night in the 96th meeting between the teams.

Newhall-Caballero was 17 for 29 passing for 209 yards and rushed for 15 yards on five attempts for the Bears (2-1), who lead the all-time series 68-26-2.

Trailing 7-0 early in the opening quarter, the Ivy League’s reigning Player of the Week took over to rally Brown into halftime. Newhall-Caballero threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Mark Kachmer, a 17-yarder to Alex Tounkara-Kone and rushed in himself for a 2-yard score to put the Bears up 21-7 at the break.

Brown’s quarterback notched another 2-yard touchdown rush to end the third quarter.

Steve Probst threw for 179 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions for the Rams (1-3). He also added 180 rushing yards and two scores.
