Wis. mayor wants to name road for Packers coach

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — In honor of the Packers’ Super Bowl title, the mayor of Green Bay wants to rename a two-mile stretch of road for Coach Mike McCarthy.

Mayor Jim Schmitt says renaming Ridge Road to McCarthy Way would be a fitting tribute to the coach who won Super Bowl XLV.

Ridge Road runs along Lambeau Field, where the Packers play. Schmitt says he picked that road not only because it’s close to the stadium but also because it’s near where the Packers plan a major redevelopment.

A Green Bay Press-Gazette report (http://bit.ly/odwK9N ) says a city survey found local residents and businesses split about 50-50 on the idea. Supporters say it follows a tradition of honoring Packers greats, while opponents say they’d be inconvenienced by the address change.
