PITTSBURGH (AP) — Many of Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins teammates spent their summer playing golf, traveling and trying to get over the team’s loss to Tampa Bay in the opening round of the NHL playoffs.
Crosby spent his summer quietly commuting between Halifax, Canada and places like Atlanta, where he sought help as he continues to recover from concussion-like symptoms that have kept him from playing since January.
Crosby is practicing with the team but still hasn’t been cleared for contact and there remains no timetable for his return. The superstar’s slow recovery and somewhat unorthodox rehab have put a spotlight on the uncertain nature of concussions.
Crosby’s friends in the NHL say they’ve offered their support but kept their distance, focusing instead on things like fishing when they talk.
