BEIJING (AP) — Second-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus reached the third round of the China Open by beating Polona Hercog of Slovakia 7-6 (8), 6-3 Wednesday.
In the third round, Ana Ivanovic of Serbia defeated third-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 6-1.
In the men’s tournament, Fernando Verdasco of Spain defeated Flavio Cipolla of Italy 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, and Mikhail Youzhny of Russia beat Feliciano Lopez of Spain 6-7 (5), 6-2, 7-5 in the second round.
